Laser Hair Treatment
Is It For You?
Precautions Before and After Laser Treatment
The area being treated cannot be exposed to the sun! For YAG treatment, the most popular laser type, avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks prior, during, and 2 weeks after treatment. For Alex and MPX treatment, avoid sun exposure for at least four weeks prior, during and at least 2 weeks after final treatment. A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher should be applied prior to exposure to the sun. Be sure to follow the reapplication guidelines.
For treatments on the body, please bring looser fitting clothing to wear following your session.
Self tanner must be entirely exfoliated off of the treated area.
Products with any type of Retinol, Hydraquinone or bleaching agent must be discontinued of use
in the area being treated at least a week in advance to your treatment.
For best results, you may continue use in the treated area after the completed 6 sessions of treatments.
Remember to shave the treatment area with a new razor within 24 hours prior to treatment to maximize results and decrease risk of infection.
Remove any jewelry around the vicinity of the area being treated.
Expectations Following Treatment
Immediately following treatment, the area should show a slight erythema (redness) with some swelling.
Blistering may occur, however your technician uses proper procedures to prevent this from happening.
Aloe Vera/Hydrocortisone cream can help alleviate any discomfort.
General Skin Care
During the healing phase, the area must be treated delicately. Do not rub, scratch, or pick. If a crust develops, let it fall off on its own.
We recommend especially for more sensitive skin types, not to try any new skincare products for the treated area unless recommended by your laser technician. For the body, switching to a Fragrance and Allergy-Free laundry detergent can be beneficial as well.
(This includes lotions, creams, oils, bodywash, scrubs)
Use a clean washcloth with mild soap and water to cleanse the treated area daily. Avoid excessively hot or cold water.
Apply a thin layer or Aloe-Vera gel to the treated area several times a day to keep the area moist.
In between treatments, only shave the area with a clean razor. Do not wax, tweeze, or do electrolysis.
If swelling occurs, apply ice that is wrapped in a soft cloth or paper towel. Discomfort or stinging may be relieved with Ibuprofen/acetaminophen.
Avoid sports, chlorine pools, strenuous exercise, and sweating for 2-3 days following treatment for hair removal. It is important to be extra cautious with this area during this time.
It is important to discuss your lifestyle with your laser technician.
For facial skin treatment and pigmented lesions, apply an aloe-based gel or equivalent to sooth and moisturize the skin.
In case of signs of infection (pus, tenderness, fever) contact our office immediately.
Chest/back/leg treatments are recommended for every 10-12 weeks; face and neck treatments every 4-6 weeks; underarms, bikini/Brazilian treatments are done every 6-8 weeks.
**A complimentary consultation is required of all new laser patients at our facility! We must test the area desired to be treated during this time; With a positive reaction from the skin, we are able to complete your first full session exactly a week following.
